Blackout fabrics are specially made fabrics that block out light and heat from the sun. They are used in a range of situations, including in the bedrooms of young children and those who do shift work and often need to sleep during the day.
Some fabrics naturally block out a lot of light, such as velvet. To ensure maximum performance, however, blackout fabrics need to be specially manufactured. This involves adding a foam backing to an opaque fabric to make the fabric opaque.
